My Sports Bra Doesn’t Fit! How to Choose the Right Support Level for Yoga vs. Running
Of all the pieces of kit in your gym wardrobe, your sports bra is arguably the most important. It’s also the hardest to get right.

We’ve all experienced the frustrations: straps that dig in, a band that rides up, chafing, the dreaded “uniboob,” or simply not enough support. A bad sports bra isn’t just uncomfortable; it’s a complete distraction that can make you cut a workout short. Worse, exercising with the wrong level of support can lead to breast pain and long-term damage to tissue.

This problem is even more common for women whose bodies have changed, such as after pregnancy, where your old bra size is suddenly no longer relevant.

Choosing the right top is the foundation of a good workout. But with “low,” “medium,” and “high” impact levels, what do you actually need?

Here’s our straightforward guide to finding the perfect support for you.

Step 1: Match Your Bra to Your Workout
The “impact level” simply refers to how much your body (and therefore, your bust) will move during the activity. Using a high-impact bra for yoga will feel restrictive, while wearing a yoga bra for a run is a recipe for pain.

Low-Impact Support

The Activities: Yoga, Pilates, walking, stretching, or light strength training.

What You Need: Comfort and flexibility. A low-impact bra is designed for slower movements. It should feel soft, breathable, and gently supportive without compressing you. You’ll often find these with softer fabrics and simpler strap designs.

Medium-Impact Support

The Activities: Spin classes, hiking, powerlifting, or using the cross-trainer.

What You Need: A secure fit that holds you in place. These bras offer more compression than low-impact styles to reduce bounce during more dynamic, but still grounded, movements. This is often the most versatile category, a true workhorse for the average gym session.

High-Impact Support

The Activities: Running, HIIT, aerobics, boxing, or any sport involving jumping.

What You Need: Maximum support and minimal bounce. High-impact bras are engineered with more structure, using features like encapsulation (separate cups) and/or high compression. The fit should be snug, and the fabric robust, to keep you locked in and secure, protecting you from impact.

Step 2: Get the Fit Right
Once you know your impact level, finding the right fit is crucial. A sports bra should fit slightly snugger than your everyday bra.

The Band: This provides 80% of the support. It should be firm and level around your ribcage. You should be able to fit no more than two fingers underneath it. When you lift your arms, it must not ride up.

The Cups: Your bust should be fully encased without spilling over the top (no “quad-boob”) or leaving any gaps.

The Straps: You should be able to fit two fingers between the strap and your shoulder, but no more. They shouldn’t dig in or slip off when you move.

The Solution: Performance Tops Designed for Purpose
You shouldn’t have to compromise. We believe your gym top should be the last thing on your mind when you’re working out.
